Libya Proud of Friendship with Iran

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Libya's visiting Prime Minister al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi in a meeting with Iran's first Vice President Parviz Davoudi here in Tehran on Wednesday said that Tripoli views Iranian nation with much respect, stressing that Libya is proud of its friendship with Iran

He voiced pleasure with his visit to a country with which Libya has had historical ties, and expressed the hope that Tehran-Tripoli relations would further develop

Al-Mahmudi said that Iran and Libya would undoubtedly experience development of their relations in the different sectors, and voiced his country's preparedness to implement plans and approvals ratified earlier by the two countries' joint commission

"We do not perceive any restriction in the expansion of ties with Tehran in different areas," he reiterated

The Libyan premier also stressed that Tehran and Tripoli would witness strong cooperation in investment and trade exchanges in the near future, and underlined that his country would make up for the delay it has had in the implementation of the two states' agreements

He also voiced regret over the decreasing volume of trade and economic exchanges between Iran and Libya during recent years, and said, "Considering that all the required grounds have been laid for the expansion of ties, the two sides economic and trade cooperation can match their political cooperation and companionship in future"

Elsewhere, the official emphasized that Iran and Libya as two revolutionary countries are capable of fulfilling great tasks in the world of Islam, and said, "It is now the time for the two countries to expand their relations to boost political cooperation in dealing with the issues of the world of Islam"

Al-Mahmudi also said that Iran and Libya can exchange views and have consultations about such issues of the world of Islam as Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine
