An Iranian director is to film a biopic about Seyyed Musa al-Sadr, the Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher and a Shia religious leader.

Iranian award winning director, Kamal Tabrizi, will make a film about Imam Musa al-Sadr, depicting his life in Iran and Lebanon.

“The research on the project was initiated in 2007. The screenplay is edited according to the comments made by Imam Musa's family in Iran and Lebanon,” producer of the film, Manouchehr Mohammadi said.

“According to the schedule, the filming begins this year. However, the project depends on the situation in Lebanon,” Mohammadi told Iran's Fars News Agency.

“The current unrest in Lebanon has postponed the filming project and we are waiting for restoration of calm to the country to start work on the project,” he said.

The producer claims Seyyed Musa al-Sadr's proficiency in both Persian and Arabic has made the selection of an actor to personify him far from easy. The actor to take the role has not been selected yet.

The distinguished spiritual and political leader played an all-important role in the Lebanese political life, particularly in connection with organizaing the Lebanese Shia, who had long been deprived of a say in the country's political and economic life.

On August 1978 he mysteriously disappeared during a visit to Libya.
