TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran called on the UN and Libya to be accountable for the fate of Shiite leader Imam Musa Sadr who disappeared in Libya 30 years ago.
"The fate of Imam Musa Sadr is an issue for more than one billion Muslims throughout the world. Islamic countries should seriously pursue the question of his fate, while Libya and the United Nations should help ascertain the case," Iran's Prosecutor General Qorban Ali Dorri Najafabadi was quoted by press tv as saying on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Sadr's disappearance.
In August 1978, Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher and prominent Shiite religious leader, Imam Musa Sadr, and two of his companions departed for Libya to meet with officials from Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi's government. They were never heard from again.
Libya has constantly denied responsibility, claiming that Sadr and his companions left Libya for Italy, but evidence gathered on the case proves otherwise.
Some have reported that he remains secretly incarcerated in the North African country. His disappearance continues to be a major source of dispute between Lebanon and Libya.
Najafabadi stressed that not only the Lebanese nation, but all Muslims, should follow the path of Imam Musa Sadr.
