A two-volume book on Imam Musa Sadr's life and works has been introduced and reviewed in a scientific session held this morning. Imam Musa Sadr; Iran's Son; Lebanon's Messiah is published by Imam Musa Sadr Research Center.
The Iranology and Islamology Research Center of the National Library and Archives Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran arranged the ceremony in the presence of its head Dr Eshagh Salahi, Mohammad Ali Mohtadi (a lecturer of the Middle East Strategic Studies Center) and Hura Sadr, Imam Musa Sadr's daughter and head of Musa Sadr Research Center.
In his opening address, Dr Ali Mohtadi talked about Sadr's personality, life and activities and said the book is an account on the life and sacrifices of Imam Musa and his involvement in the Amal (in Arabic hope) movement with martyr Chamran.
This is the first reference on Musa's life and activities written based on history writing methods. Formerly, the Amal movement published an encyclopedia of Imam Musa'd life and works but the work did not follow historiography principles. However, the present volumes should be regarded as an abridged version of the encyclopedia, added Mohtadi.
The encyclopedia contains documents and newspaper extracts about Imam Musa and the Amal Movement in which the compilers have tried to make a connection between the presented documents.
Mohtadi went on to elaborate on Imam's role in the region's developments and said "at that time Lebanon was in a chaotic state and Shias were cast away and had no supporters in or out of Lebanon. It was then Imam Musa Sadr entered the country.
Starting off the Amal Movement was one of Imam Musa's greatest works against Israelis and for Shia's. The movement made a magnificent transition in Lebanon and found serious opposers among communists. Sadr was indeed Lebanon's savior and incase he were not abducted, the region would be in a much different state today, Mohtadi postulated.
"Imam Musa Sadr was at the peak of science and ethics," added Mohtadi. "He never idled in his domicile and tried to interact with all walks of the society. In terms of mysticism, Musa was in a distinguished status and had dedicated all his life to his God and the people. He, in fact, was dedicated to his ideals."
Mohtadi further noted Sadr's abduction in Libia in 1977 and said if Qaddafi was arrested alive, more could be understood his meeting with Musa Sadr. Investigations on Sadr's fate are still being undertaken in Iran besides Amal's unofficial efforts in this regard.
Imam Musa Sadr's Life is a book by Khalil Hamdan which is rendered into Persian by Mehdi Sahadi. The two-volume book has recently been published in Tehran.
