In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
My dear emigrant brother,
May the Peace, Mercy and Blessings of God be upon you,
Although we have long bidden each other farewell, I feel like I have never truly left you. I feel your presence with every beat of my heart, with every fibre of my being, bridging the time and distance between us. With every beaming thought of you, all trouble seems to fade away, as if we were never apart. My thoughts, my feelings and my whole being drift toward you. You have given me the fondest of memories – memories that I will carry with me wherever fate may take me. And for that, for carrying your country, your nation and their noble ideals with you as you soar to new heights every day, you shall be part of every endeavour I pursue.
The time we spent together was brief yet deeply impactful. It was a unique experience to encounter and live through.
I have seen your unbound ambition, which gave you the strength, when you first journeyed off, to never succumb to inherited social conditions, defeatist attitudes or superficial thought.
I was humbled by your faith in God, who gave you the courage to leave your loved ones and your land, with no protection, no support and no safeguards; to set out with God as your sole Protector and Guardian.
My dear brother,
You have ventured to the ends of the earth not to conquer, but to build. You have become a brother to the people around you, rather than a disdainful outsider. With the glory you helped bring to your second home, you have portrayed a glorious image of your homeland. You have brought happiness to every family, have laid the foundations of every proud structure and have greatly contributed to the establishment and continuity of every humanitarian, religious, and social project.
Tell me, then, after all of this, how can I ever forget you? How can I ever repay your kindness, your warm welcome, your hospitality, your generosity, and the geniality you have shown me during my stay?
The fact is that I can never repay you, because no words can express my gratitude and appreciation. Your intentions and aspirations are sublime. It is not for the purpose of recognition or material gain that you act with such magnanimity: You do so to devoutly serve God and His people.
It is for this reason that, rather than thank and praise you, my dear brother, I will ask God to grant you good health, to guarantee your safe return, to bless you with success, and to keep you close to your family and cherished ones.
I ask God to give me the strength to fulfil my duty and responsibility toward you, to do my part, alongside our loyal countrymen, to improve your situation and uphold your rights, to keep my promise of achieving your demands, to protect the social institution you have entrusted us with, to be able to visit you again, and to never lose touch with you.
May the Peace, Mercy and Blessings of God be upon you,
Moussa Al Sadr
